Living Routes offers loan to Oro Verde
Living Routes has offered a $20,000 construction loan to Oro Verde, the coffee cooperative we work with on our January-term program in Peru. The loan will support the construction of an ecological training center that, in addition to housing our students (hopefully by January of 2008), will offer tours and workshops for coop members, visitors and organizations associated with the Fair Trade market. The center will also be an ecological demonstration site with such features as:
- Rainwater harvesting
- Gray water irrigation
- Biogas cookstove
- Cob oven
- Composting toilets
- Photovoltaic panels
- and more...
Below is a picture of the land as it stands now. We are very excited about this endeavor and will try to upload more photos as construction proceeds.

Living Routes Recieves UNDESD Recognition
Living Routes is proud to announce that, by meeting and exceeding the criteria set forth in Gaia Education's Ecovillage Design Curriculum, our semester programs in Scotland and India are now considered official contributions to the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005-2014.
According to their site,
The overall goal of the DESD is to integrate the principles, values, and practices of sustainable development into all aspects of education and learning. This educational effort will encourage changes in behaviour that will create a more sustainable future in terms of environmental integrity, economic viability, and a just society for present and future generations."
We expect that our semester program in Senegal will receive similar recognition once materials are submitted in September.
