LR alumni helps design Eco-City
On May 20th, the Green Century Institute, a non-profit research institute based in San Francisco, hosted the first Open Community Design Summit to kick-off their ten-year proposal to design and build the Califia project, a 10,000 person Bay Area Eco-City. Scott Fossel, Califia Research Director and an alumni of the Living Routes India program, was on hand as one of the foremost drivers of the project. Over the course of the afternoon and under the professional facilitation of the Neighborhood Assemblies Network, the 90 or so participants naturally evolved into interest groups and hammered out the consensus design goals most likely to garner a broad-based support coalition in the community. The Green Century Institute's findings from the Summit can be found on the Califia wiki at: http://califia.pbwiki.com and the Green Century main site is at: http://www.greencenturyinstitute.org GCI will be hosting more such events in the future as they continue to advance on the goals they have set for their project, so stay tuned and feel free if you are a Bay Area alumni of Living Routes to join us in the future!
