First week in Auroville...

India is a beautiful place, full of spirituality and ancient traditions. Auroville seems to be radiating a profound love, that ripples into the surrounding villages. As a community of 21 individuals (18 students and 3 facilitators), we have been residing in the College Guest House in Auroville, which is in the Tamil Nadu region. Ten of us are staying in a giant tree house and the rest are in the surrounding play houses and cottages. We wake up to an orchestra of singing birds at 6:15am for yoga 5-6 times a week, while filling our days with exploration, adventure and laughter. More...

our first adventure to Pondicherry...

image

the other day we were able to explore the 'city' of Pondicherry. It was our first offical exploration outside of the Auroville community and surrounding villages. Interestingly enough, it was a Sunday and apparently not too busy because, in India, Sunday is the one day most people rest and don't work...I can't imagine how crazy and crowded the city streets and markets become on a regular schedule day...

the matrimandir

image

the other day we went and had a tour of the matrimandir...it is supposed to be "the soul of Auroville", according to The Mother. It is not yet completed, but it is still an incredible site to see.

The Baynon Tree is next to the matrimandir and is the geographical center of Auroville. The master plan of this community spirals out from the center of these two symbolic entities. More...
