And so it begins....

Group photo at Sirius CommunityThis is a picture of the group at the end of their 7-day Orientation at the Sirius Community in western Massachusetts, just before they got into a van that took them to Logan Airport in Boston where they caught a flight to Frankfurt, Germany and then on to Chennai, India. We started this weblog a bit late so I will let others share more about what Orientation was like and what they are now experiencing in Auroville, the community where the program is based in India.

In India!

image The picture below (in the snow at Sirius) seems like it is from a long time ago, but I guess it has only been a couple weeks. Everyone is doing well, and we are being well taken care of. I feel like my body is finally adapting to the climate, which is very different from home. In fact, most things are different here. With all the new experiences and new people we are learning and growing a lot. More...

Some of where we've been and some of where we are headed...

imageIn this ever changing world so does the Geo/Living Routes program continue to evolve and change. This spring our semester began with six days of orientation at the Sirius Community in Shutesbury, Massachusetts, in conditions that were decidedly un-spring-like. It was very cold and glistening white with snow, so most of our days were spent in the glassed-in octagon room at the peak of their central building, where we fed the woodstove to keep warm and absorbed the brilliance of the deciduous forest surrounding us in winter. I am really glad that we were finally able to get some pictures up, and I would like to add some text to go along with some of them. On the main web log page there are a couple pictures that are not group photos. One is a picture of our wonderful faculty Judy and Nicky, and the other is Krishna showing us rice while we were taking a tour at Solitude farm. More...

Jaya Ganesha…

Chanting at Auroville A few of us Geo’s have been chanting regularly in Judy and Nicky’s “living room” at the College Guest House. We also head to Adventure (one of Auroville’s communities) on Tuesday evenings for a larger circle with other members of the Auroville community and instruments. The attached picture (and perhaps sound clip if Daniel can figure out how to post it!) is of a few of us chanting in the Ganesha hut at Adventure. The harmonium, an instrument commonly used in India to accompany chanting, is played by Kathy who leads us in the chants. There is usually some percussion by Horst (a German Aurovillian from Adventure), other residents and visitors, and ourselves. More...

Fond Memories, Bright Futures

Hello Geo's, this is John Fennessy- Sara and Cristin and Brianna's friend, I met you at Sirius. I love to check this page to see what you have all been doing, and to re-live my time in Auroville. I hope you all had a wonderful trip to Hampi and all found great power-spots for your solos! The ruins of Hampi are AMAZING no?!! So, back in Auroville- you must all be doing homestays now? Where are you all living? Its ok if you put in some entries with Aurovillian info that others may not understand who haven't been : ) Have you been riding the buses into Pondy for 2.50 rupees, and eating all the masala dosa you can possibly handle while in South India?!! Surguru!!! And props to all the guys wearing lungis over there! It is still bloody cold weather here (although its warming up, and I live in Vermont) - please don't take for granted the beautiful weather and cold showers that you are blessed with! Be sure to check out if you haven't already- the huge houses past Roma's Kitchen (in Kuilapalayam!) they are amazing pieces of architecture. Also- full moon hikes with Krishna and Johnny!?! Did you go!!! Thats the best- hang out with Johnny all you can- invite him over for dinner- or have a bonfire some night- he's a lot of fun. I am in class right now- with John Todd - but wish I was in Auroville! Jai Ganesha. Om namah shivaya. More...
