Weblog for Mexico: Leadership for Social Change at Huehuecoyotl - January 2005

Our day "off"

It is saturday at Huehue. Several of us got up early to hike to the top of a nearby peak. It was a beautiful walk. A few folks asked to see what I look like! Well thank you. Here is Giovanni, one of the instructors, and myself standing in front of a field of cactus (used as a vegetable). Giovanni is the handsome guy on the right.

Part of the walk was on narrow trails and part of the time we were on the road. Here we are on the road from Amatlan to Ocotitlan. It is a bit different than some of the roads backhome.

It was a beautiful walk, with a few steep climb at times. We helped each other. Here is Baru, one of the original members of the Huehue community, who knows the trails well. He helped each of us at difficult spots.

We made it to the "roof of the world".

Here are los burros (the donkeys) at one of the places we rested in the shade.

Don't worry. Everyone got home safely. This evening many of us will go to a poetry reading by Grace Paley (from New England) and then the younger ones plan on going dancing!
Good day!
