bring years of experience in not-for-profit, social justice, environmental and alternative and university education arenas as well as a dedication

Board President
With a doctorate from Cornell University in anthropology and a specialization in the study of place, Philip Snyder has been the executive director of several complex NGOs for more than twenty-three years, including a large, multifaceted center at Cornell University (the Center for Religion, Ethics and Social Policy), a regional land conservancy (Finger Lakes Land Trust), and the International Secretariat of the Global Ecovillage Network based in Denmark (www.gaia.org). These organizations work on a variety of issues related to sustainable development, environmental conservation, peace and community, among others. In addition he taught anthropology as an adjunct professor for eighteen years. He was awarded a Senior Fulbright Fellowship for the entire year of 1997 to coordinate the citizen conflict resolution program of the Fulbright Commission, working with Turkish and Greek communities in the divided island of Cyprus. He has also been on the board of directors of many organizations over the past twenty-five years. Philip combines a background in all facets of organizational and program development together with ongoing research and work in sustainable development, environmental regeneration, ecological communities, and the human relationship with landscape. Spanning thirty years in the both United States and Europe, this experience provides a rich base for his consulting practice, which has two main components: organizational and sustainable development as well as land use and land guide services.

Executive Director and Board Member, has studied and directed community-based educational programs for over 12 years. Daniel wrote his
doctoral thesis on "Education within Contemporary Intentional Communities", and has visited and corresponded with over 200 communities in
the U.S. He spent a year developing educational programs at the Findhorn Foundation and then four years working with the Geocommons
College Programs in India and France. In addition to directing college-level semester programs, he has developed curricula on sustainable community
development, deep ecology, ecological auditing, and systems thinking. Daniel has held the vision for Living Routes for over a decade and has
steadily built the experience and networks of support necessary to assure its success. He brings immense commitment, contagious enthusiasm, and
a unique blend of broad vision and grounded action to his role as Executive Director.

Professor of Plant Sciences and Sustainability Studies at the University of Massachusetts, John Gerber teaches courses in Sustainable Agriculture, Sustainable Living, Agricultural Systems Thinking, and other related plant science courses. John is chair of the Amherst Conservation Commission and was a founding member of the Consortium for Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, and the Loka Institute for Democratizing Technology. He was Director of the University of Massachusetts Extension System from 1992 to 2000, and has also served as Associate Dean in the College of Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. In addition, he was the Assistant Director in the Illinois Agricultural Experiment Station and Program Leader for Sustainable Agriculture in the Illinois Cooperative Extension Service (1989-1992). John was responsible for the establishment of the University of Illinois Agro-Ecology Program.

Office Manager. Co-founder of the Sacred Earth Network (a highly-successful deep ecological education and Russian environmental assistance not-for-profit),
Davis brings over ten years of not-for-profit technical and financial management to Living Routes. As a graduate of the Audubon Expedition Institute, he is
intimately familiar with alternative college education and is passionate about creating community living and learning environments. A skilled workshop
facilitator, he is committed to reawakening our heartfelt interconnection with all living beings.

Gregg Orifici, Director of Admissions at Living Routes,
holds a J.D. in International Law and has over 12 years experience
working in the fields of intercultural education and study abroad,
international relations, social justice, and sustainable development.
He is the author of numerous articles and key communications strategies
and has worked abroad as a researcher and journalist for the European
Commission and as an analyst in European integration and monetary
union. Gregg is proficient in several languages and feels passionately
that experienced-based education and an understanding of how other
cultures and communities live and thrive sustainably is vital for
learners of all ages and for the planet.

Jennifer Hartley, Program Coordinator, has an MA in Gender/Cultural Studies and an MS in Library & Information Science. She lives at Rocky Hill Cohousing in Florence, MA and is involved in many local efforts towards community living and sustainability, including the Permaculture Guild of Western Massachusetts. Jen is fluent in Italian and Spanish and has traveled throughout Europe, Latin America, and the U.S., and is deeply committed to empowering individuals to create a sustainable world.
